Student Ambassador Bonnie Lam's first BCLA conference

As a BCLA student ambassador, attending the first BCLA Clinical Conference was an incredible experience. Representing my university and engaging with industry leaders, professionals, and fellow ambassadors throughout the event was an absolute honour.

I was already excited and even more so once I arrived at the conference venue. The atmosphere was buzzing with energy as delegates from around the world gathered to explore the latest advancements in contact lenses and eye care. As a BCLA Student Ambassador, I had the unique opportunity to voice my opinions and share my views with industry leaders. It was a privilege to contribute to the conversations and provide a student perspective on the challenges and innovations in the field.

Attending the seminars was a highlight of the conference. Renowned experts delivered thought-provoking presentations on various topics related to contact lenses, ocular health, and clinical practices. The sessions were informative, engaging, and provided valuable insights into the future of optometry. I eagerly took notes, absorbed knowledge, and found inspiration for my academic and professional journey.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the conference was the opportunity to network and connect with professionals from different corners of the industry. Whether it was during tea breaks, lunches, or evening social events, I had the chance to interact with optometrists, researchers, and representatives from eye care companies. These conversations broadened my perspective, deepened my understanding, and opened doors to potential collaborations and mentorship opportunities.

The camaraderie among the student ambassadors was another aspect that made the experience memorable. We quickly formed a tight-knit community, bonded by our shared passion for optometry. We exchanged ideas, discussed our experiences, and supported each other throughout the conference. It was inspiring to witness the dedication and enthusiasm of my fellow ambassadors, and I made lifelong friendships along the way.

Furthermore, we were graciously invited to visit Brian Tompkins practice, and I must say, I am genuinely looking forward to it. The opportunity to visit the clinic of such a renowned practitioner adds an extra level of excitement to the event. I am eager to gain real-world insights into the daily operations of an optometry clinic and observe the practical application of the concepts discussed during the conference. Engaging with Brian Tompkins directly and learning from his vast experience will be invaluable for my personal and professional development.

Overall, the first BCLA Clinical Conference exceeded all my expectations. As a student ambassador, I had the chance to contribute, learn, and grow in a professional and supportive environment. The knowledge gained, connections made, and memories created will undoubtedly shape my future endeavours in optometry. I am tremendously grateful for the opportunity and eagerly look forward to attending future conferences to continue my growth as a clinician and advocate for eye health.
