In this presentation there will be a review of the physiology of allergies (hypersensitivity reactions), how to assess and manage (from palliative to referral), with an emphasis on the contribution/effect of contact lens wear.

An informal and fun look at the aetiology of hypersensitivity (allergy) reactions, how to manage them and the effect on CL wear.  We will be discussing everyday allergic presentations (with case studies) and explaining the strategies used to manage these scenarios.  With regards to contact lens wearers how to best manage allergy related complications including changing modality and therapeutic options.

Session is approved for 1 interactive CET point (C-78533) for Optom, Therapeutic prescriber, DO, and CLO.  You will be asked to submit your GOC number at time of registration. You must attend the full live session and complete all the MCQ's during the live webinar session to receive any applicable CET points. Speakers

Dr Keyur Patel is an award-winning optometrist, practising in the U.K.  Currently, he is the Clinical Director at Tompkins Knight and Son Optometrists, with special interests in therapeutics, dry eye, sports vision and contact lenses, as well as continuing regular Glaucoma days in community clinic.  Keyur graduated from City University in 1999, and after 5 years in practice ventured to the US, where he completed the accelerated O.D. program at the New England College of Optometry, Boston. After completing a residency in Community Health, he returned to England.  Upon his return, to maintain the increased level of care afforded to him, he completed Diplomas in Therapeutics, Glaucoma and Sports Vision.  He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometrists, College of Optometrists and the British Contact Lens Association.  Keyur has been a clinical instructor for NECO, City University, WOPEC, Alcon University and is lucky enough to be considered a KOL.  He regularly posts clinical images and insights on Twitter and Instagram as @Optomegeek.

 

Zachary Cairns is a specialist optometrist currently working in the United Arab Emirates.  He is currently the Deputy Head of Moorfields Optometry department and specialises in contact lenses, anterior segment and glaucoma.  He graduated from Ulster University in 2016 before completing his pre-registration and specialising in Moorfields London for 3 years. He has worked across disciplines such as specialist contact lenses, emergency cornea, glaucoma and all core optometry clinics.  He is an advocate for optometry in the wider context and enjoys lecturing both nationally and internationally to Ophthalmologists and Optometrists. Over the past year he has been involved in teaching medical students at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences.
