Andrew Jelly and Karen Hughes will report on the various types of ocular prosthetics available concentrating on the types of prosthetic contact lenses that can be fitted in practice. In this presentation the benefits of prosthetic lenses and the conditions which can be successfully treated will be discussed.
This presentation will explain how to measure the eye and select the most appropriate contact lens design and cosmetic appearance for the needs of the patient and how to discuss the contact lens limitations with the patient. The ongoing management of contact lens aftercare and how to support patients with their prosthetic lenses will also be explained. CPD accreditation has been confirmed with reference number C-100791. Speakers
Andrew qualified as an Optometrist in 2001 after studying at University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology. Further studies include a Post Graduate Certificate in Glaucoma from Cardiff University in 2015, Diploma in Therapeutics: Independent Prescribing in 2016 and Professional Certificate in Medical Retina in 2020. He has worked in various workplaces including the Hospital Eye Service, independent and multiple optical practices. He currently works as a Specialist Optometrist with the Optometry Services team at Belfast Health & Social Care Trust providing regional Hospital Contact Lens clinics.
Karen qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 1997 and then as a Contact Lens Optician in January 2000, after studying at City&Islington College, London. She has worked in both independent and multiple optical practices before joining the team at Cantor&Nissel Ltd, where she has been Professional Services Manager for 15 years.
