BCLA President Jonathon Bench will be presenting his Presidential Address titled 'Inspiring generations' on Wednesday 25 September 2019 at the Royal College of Nursing, London. Registration and drinks reception: 18:30 - 19:00 followed by Jonathon's lecture 19:00 - 20:00.

As Einstein stated “The measure of intelligence is the ability to change”.  Never has this been more true than now with the world around us and the expectations of people changing more rapidly than ever before. As intelligent eye care professionals (ECPs) we have a responsibility to keep up with these changes, responding to and guiding our patients’ in contemporary ways.  The BCLA has committed itself to be a conduit for education and best practice sharing from peer to peer, creating a community of contact lens and ocular surface advocacy, bringing the cutting edge and novel insights and developments from academia/R&D to the practice.  Then the onward professional development to benefit the patient receiving care. In this session we will take the timeframe of the BCLA's existence (42yrs) to understand the differences between generations (some cliché, but are they all true), some of the significant advancements that have been provided to us through improving science and knowledge, the very real challenges that exist in our consulting rooms and how we can overcome some but still need to address others, and the way in which our patients continue to be the engines for change in our profession/industry. Join me to understand how generations of BCLA members have been inspired and how we have, and can continue, to inspire generations of patients.
