BCLA Asia Conference: 'Surviving Practice Change'
In collaboration with SOA
18 - 19 September 2018, Singapore Polytechnic Convention Centre

Welcome from BCLA

The inaugural BCLA Asia conference, held in 2016 in Hong Kong, was hugely popular with hundreds of delegates attending and we are returning in 2018 with the major event now being jointly staged by the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) and the Singapore Optometric Association (SOA). The two-day event will take place on Tuesday 18 September and Wednesday 19 September at the Singapore Polytechnic Convention Centre.

The BCLA has been delivering cutting edge contact lens and anterior eye education to practitioners for 40 years and BCLA Asia is your chance to showcase new research and industry innovations in the field. The meetings attract a wide range of ocular health professionals, scientist and business experts, bringing together a unique interdisciplinary blend of knowledge and networking opportunities.

The two-day conference will see BCLA working in collaboration with SOA to deliver sessions blending the latest research and clinical guidance on relevant topics. In addition, there will be a range of hands-on workshops covering clinical skills, business and presentation/research skills. The exhibition will allow delegates to get ‘hands on’ with the latest products and the sponsors will update the audience as to their innovations and future strategy. There will be plenty of opportunities to network with colleagues and the wider contact lens and anterior eye community, especially at the Welcome Reception on the first evening. The BCLA Asia meeting will also allow delegates to apply for and complete a BCLA Fellowshipan indicator of esteem in the field held by over 150 top professionals across the globe.

The conference is an opportunity to continue the growth of the eye health industry in the region and we are thrilled to be heading to Singapore – a city known for its thriving business sector and a pioneering commitment to innovation. Growth in the contact lens market is particularly strong in Singapore and across Asia as a whole and the event will aim to continue to build the confidence of eye care practitioners to prescribe contact lenses with a focus on prescribing to the presbyope, fitting children, speciality lenses and managing dry eye disease.

We look forward to welcoming you in September!

Welcome from SOA

The Council of SOA warmly welcome all of you to this conference. To those who plan to come from abroad, welcome to Singapore – a clean, safe and modern metropolis from which to sample the best of Asian culture and cuisine from the region.

The past 3 consecutive SOA Conferences have been Singapore’s largest local conference for optometrists and opticians, drawing between 600-800 attendees.  It is usually a 2 day conference held at in turn by one of the 3 optometric / opticianry educational institutes.  We have come full circle and once again it is held at Singapore Polytechnic’s Convention Centre. This is significant as Singapore Polytechnic is the first institution in Singapore to have a formal course of optometry in 1994. It has impressive facilities such as a 1000 seating capacity auditorium, generous exhibition space and the convenience of a train station at its doorstep in the neighbourhood of a technology- centred business hub.

Another significant milestone for this year’s conference is the partnership between BCLA Asia and SOA. In this joint BCLA-SOA Conference, delegates can look forward to a world-class continuing professional education experience, especially since the optometry profession is engaged in a worldwide myopia epidemic in addition to managing presbyopia and dry eyes in a rapidly ageing population.

It is an exciting time to be in Southeast Asia, to share your expertise in a region that is growing not just economically, but also eager to raise professional standards of optometry and contact lens practice.

We hope that this conference brings a unique opportunity for networking and showcasing your best to a wider optometric community.

We wish everyone a fruitful experience and every success at this conference and for overseas visitors, a memorable visit to Singapore.
