Ever wondered how soft contact lenses could be used to help manage irregular corneas?

A workshop at the forthcoming BCLA UK event will look at how advances in technology have triggered a shift towards using soft lenses rather than corneal lenses.
The talk, by probationary CL practical examiner for the ABDO Jennifer McMahon (pictured), will help identify indications and applications for soft contact lenses in the management of the irregular cornea.

All those attending will gain an appreciation of the different soft contact lens designs for the irregular cornea and understand fitting and assessment techniques specifically for soft lenses.
Jennifer said: “Historically soft contact lenses have been considered inferior to corneal lenses in the correction of the irregular cornea. With advances in modern lens design and manufacturing technology soft lenses are rapidly becoming a viable option.
“This presentation will explore potential advantages over other lens types with particular reference to a patient-centred care approach.”
The talk will be held as part of a series of CET lectures during BCLAUK – a new event aimed at boosting eye care professionals’ confidence with contact lenses and maximising the potential of both themselves and their practice.
