The future of myopia control: How and when this will influence your clinical practice - Dr Janis Orr

Myopia is one of the most important challenges faced by the industry, so what does the future hold for myopia control and how will it help shape the continued development of your practice?
At BCLA’s Visionaries event, Dr Janis Orr (pictured) will look to answer these two vital questions, as well as addressing some of the key issues around the emergence of myopia control.
The session will introduce the problems associated with myopia, the potential mechanisms behind myopia development, and the management strategies currently available to eye care professionals.
The relative efficacy of each myopia control method will be discussed, and their advantages and disadvantages considered – giving all delegates a thorough understanding of what can, at first glimpse, seem a complicated and often daunting topic. The session, which is worth one CET point, will culminate in recommendations for current best practice and speculation on future myopia management - ensuring that you are at the forefront of the latest thinking and research.

Myopia control has quickly become the focus of Dr Orr’s role as a lecturer at the Aston University School of Optometry, quickly earning her recognition as a leading global expert on the subject.
Her research interests are centred upon myopia development and control, corneal biomechanics, and the optical and biometric characteristics of the eye.
In this session, scientific evidence will be combined with clinical experience to outline best practice myopia management.

The session will form part of the spectacular Visionaries event, which takes place at London’s Royal College of Surgeons on Monday November 14, and will include an evening reception for drinks and an extended exhibition from some of the industry’s biggest names.
Official event partners include Alcon,
CooperVision, Menicon, Johnson & Johnson, mark e’nnovy and Topcon.
Entry is free for full BCLA members and tickets are available for non-members priced £200.
