Asian meeting will see East meet West

East will meet West at a conference in Asia, with a major event now being jointly staged by the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) and the Singapore Optometric Association (SOA).

The BCLA Asia conference will see BCLA officials working in collaboration with the SOA to deliver sessions blending the latest research and clinical guidance on relevant topics. In addition, there will be a range of hands-on workshops covering clinical skills, business and presentation/research skills.

The joint meeting replaces the SOA’s standalone event and organisers hope the new format will attract upwards of 700 delegates – meaning a far bigger audience and increased reach.

BCLA president Keith Tempany said: “The conference is an opportunity to continue the growth of the eye health industry in the region and we are thrilled to be heading to Singapore – a city known for its thriving business sector and a pioneering commitment to innovation.

“Growth in the contact lens market is particularly strong in Singapore and across Asia as a whole and the event will aim to continue to build the confidence of eye care practitioners to prescribe contact lenses with a focus on prescribing to the presbyope, fitting children, speciality lenses and managing dry eye disease.”

Due to the change in format, the two-day event, sponsored by Alcon, CooperVision and Menicon will now take place on Tuesday, September 18 and Wednesday, September 19 at the Singapore Polytechnic Convention Centre.

Dr Koh Liang Hwee, president of the Singapore Optometric Association, said: “We are honoured to partner with the BCLA for our annual conference, which has been Singapore’s largest annual optometric conference for three consecutive years. 

“It is significant to be hosting this inaugural partnership at Singapore’s first institution of optometry, which has state-of-the-art facilities and generous space for trade exhibitors.”

 

“SOA is an accredited Continuing Professional Education (CPE) provider by the Optometrist and Opticians Board of Singapore and strives to provide quality CPE events for the benefit of the optometric profession.”
