BCLA Myopia Management Certificate

The Myopia Management certificate from the BCLA will focus on clinical skills and evidence practice in myopia management, allowing BCLA members to gain CPD points while working towards a certificate. Over time this qualification will also lead to a BCLA Fellowship in myopia control.

The structure of the certificate is designed to provide you with expert knowledge in the three main areas of myopia management: spectacles, contact lenses and pharmacological interventions. The Myopia Management certificate can be achieved by any optometrist or contact lens optician who attains seven credits and a final oral (viva voce) examination. It is a requirement of the certificate that each of the 6 online modules and 1 relevant workshop/ peer review is passed in order to progress and there are no optional modules within this certificate. A BCLA Myopia Management Certificate will be issued on successful completion of the course. This certificate will need to be renewed every three years. BCLA membership must be maintained throughout this period.

The course is available to full members of the BCLA and is free to complete including access to all course materials and additional resources. The course needs to be completed within twelve months from the date of enrolment, if you do not manage to complete the course within this time frame, all attempts will be removed and you will need to re-enrol. Students working towards their Certificate will have up to 3 attempts to complete the online modules and 1 attempt at the written examination.

How can I get started on the course? 

To enrol onto a course you will need to login to your BCLA profile and follow the instructions below:

  • click the 'Enrol here' button above;
  • add the 'BCLA Myopia Management Certificate' to your shopping cart;
  • navigate to your shopping cart in the top right hand corner to submit order and complete the purchase (zero cost);
  • once your order is confirmed, navigate to your profile by clicking on your name in the top right hand corner;
  • click onto the 'Learning' tab, then 'Access my learning area' as shown in screen shot below.  This will take you to the BCLA Learning Platform where you can begin your course.

Part A Online Lectures
Six online recorded lectures with a short 12-question MCQ quiz each.

Part B Dry Eye Interactive Session
The next interactive session will be running at BCLA Focus on 11 & 12 June 2022 and also in November 2022 - dates tbc.

Part C Written Examination
The next written examinations will be taking place in September 2022 and February 2023 - dates tbc.

Part D Re-accreditation
This certificate will need to be renewed every three years during the month of January, and BCLA membership must be maintained throughout this period.
