BCLA Webinar: Sustainability in Contact Lenses
5 June 2024, 19:00 - 20:00 (BST)

Contact lenses offer a relatively safe and convenient form of vision correction, but wearers may question the environmental impact of contact lens wear.  The first part of the webinar presented by Sarah Smith will share insights from contact lens wearers about their attitude to environmental concerns.  Figures relating to the amount of waste generated and the opportunities for responsible disposal are reported.  Opportunities for practitioners to promote and share positive messages around sustainability are explored.  Looking to the future, work to develop plant-based plastics and the potentially application in the world of contact lenses is discussed.

The second part of the webinar presented by Aldo Zucaro will provide a manufacturer’s perspective on sustainability and the actions it is taking in order to address the challenges of sustainability. The focus will be on people and planet, and will address the following areas: designing with intention, recovery and repurpose, sourcing responsibly, and offsetting.

1 CPD point C-108923.  A CPD certificate will be sent to all webinar attendees who:
a) Attend the webinar for the full duration (60 minutes).
b) Answer all live polling questions.

CPD certificates will be emailed within 10 days of the live webinar to all attendees who fulfil the above criteria.

The event is open to all, though please note that only BCLA members will be invited to participate and vote at the AGM.  BCLA Members are encouraged to attend the full evening agenda from 18:45 BST, whilst non-members will be invited from 19:00 BST for the Sustainability in Contact Lenses Webinar only.
